A Discussion of Democracy
Please read the articles below on democracy; and then, answer the question that follows:
Gary Gutting and Jonathan Mott have related but conflicting ideas on democracy. What aspects of their ideas do you find most convincing and why? (In class, we'll discuss which aspects of Gutting and Mott's are most problematic and we'll add Jefferson's ideas to the discussion of Gutting and Mott). Please post your answers and be prepared to discuss in class on Wednesday.

  1. I Find a lot of both authors ideas convincing. In the second article, he states that America is a democracy but in fact a republic based on its characteristics and a particular line in the pledge of Alligence. Which i never realized till actually reading this article, and i find it to be quite true and ironic. After reading the third Article by Gary Gutting, he also made numerous valid points. He stated that America has more than one type of government, and once you look deep into each aspect of our government, what he was explaining was true. Majority if the decisions made are by the wealthy 1% that make up the government. Once you look at how our country is ran and read both these articles you can actually see that there can be some truth to it.
